BOS Balance of Storage Systems AG


The BOS Balance of Storage Systems AG is an up-coming company from Germany. Founded in 2014, BOS AG has set itself the goal of becoming a leading provider of off-grid products and services with a focus on lithium and lead (Li-Pb) hybrid storage technologies for photovoltaic systems and intelligent load control.

ELNA has been distributing hybrid storage systems from BOS since 2019. It all started with the LE300 Smart Battery System. The LE300 is a patented lithium (LiFePO4) battery that was specially developed for the expansion of existing lead-acid battery systems.

In 2024, the new Battery S was launched on the market, which can work both as a hybrid battery with lead systems and independently as a pure lithium solution.

Innovative Made in Germany!

The idea of developing a lithium battery that can plug & play connected to an existing lead-acid battery system is simple but ingenious. The patented system ensures that both advantages of a lead-acid battery and those of a lithium battery can be utilised.

Lead-acid batteries are robust, can deliver high currents and are inexpensive. However, lead batteries are very heavy, only half of their capacity can be utilised and, depending on how they are maintained, they are not particularly long-lasting.

Lithium batteries, on the other hand, are light, 90% of their capacity can be utilised and they are also very durable.

While a well-maintained lead-acid battery only has 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 charging cycles, the LE300 lithium battery only has this after 3,000 charging cycles.

The LE300 lithium extension battery takes over most of the charging cycles while the lead battery functions as a favourable backup storage. The lead-acid battery is charged with a higher priority and the lithium battery takes over the excess energy. When discharging, the lithium battery is primarily discharged. This significantly extends the service life of the lead battery. The LE300 recognises the voltage of the lead-acid battery and automatically starts to support the lead-acid battery with a maximum current of 12.5 A. Larger loads are supplied by the lead-acid battery and the lithium battery in parallel, which means that both batteries are loaded with less current.

The LE300 can be connected to the existing lead-acid battery or the battery charger without modification.
